Online Gaming and Cyberbullying

These are real examples of cyberbullying online that we have captured. 

DOTA 2

This video looks at cyberbullying within DOTA 2, a popular online multiplayer game. 

​

It is a 5v5 game, where you can communicate with your teammates and the opponents. The aim of the game is to destroy the other teams base before they destroy yours. This video is a recent real account of cyberbullying within the game. Due to the unrestricted communication within the game verbal abuse is quite common.

1. When watching the video think about how the comments make you feel.

CSGO

1. Do these videos seem familiar?

2. Have you been told that this type of behaviour is okay? That it is just the community, everyone is like that.

3. Should the communication be moderated on these games?

4. Who is at fault in these situations?

This video looks at cyberbullying within CSGO, another popular online multiplayer game. 

​

CSGO is a tactical shooter based game, where the aim of the game is to to kill the opposing team or plant the bomb within each round (3min). There are 5 people in your team and each game can have up to 30 rounds. It is vital to communicate with your team during the game, which is why the game has unrestricted communication. Verbal abuse is common, as can be seen in the video above.

What you can do if you experience cyberbullying on these games 

If you are being bullied on these games you can report the issue. 

​

Within DOTA 2 you are able to report players at the end of the game for communication abuse.

Within CSGO you can kick teammates out of the game, you can also report the player to CSGO. 

You are also able to report players on steam (the platform that the game is available from) by going to the perpetrator's profile and reporting a violation.
